Tennis Rolls to Second Straight Win
RICHMOND, Ind. – Asbury women’s tennis picked up their second straight win to start the season, 6-3 over Indiana East on Saturday. The Eagles are now 2-0 on the season but more importantly are 2-0 in the KIAC. Indiana East is now 1-6 overall and 1-1 in the KIAC.
The Eagles started the match up 2-0 as IUE only had five players, giving the Eagles wins at #6 singles and #3 doubles. In singles play freshman Shelby Gilles picked up her first career win, 6-3, 6-1 at #2 over Cheltsi Hinners. Miriam Waslewski also won in singles action, playing at #4 and winning in three sets 3-6, 6-4, 10-5. Waslewski is now the only player that is 2-0 on the season.
In doubles the Eagles flexed their muscle, winning at #1 with the duo of Gilles and Jordan Myers, defeating Hinners and Paige Froman 8-3. Sarah Marshall and Izzy Howell won at #2 doubles 8-6. The Eagles are 5-1 in doubles so far this season.
Asbury returns to action on Wednesday as they travel to Berea.
