Hurtle, Waslewski Take KIAC Season Honors
WILMORE, Ky. – Two Asbury University women’s tennis players were named to the All-KIAC team by league coaches for the 2011 season. Junior Malory Hurtle and sophomore Miriam Waslewski were the two Eagles on the team of 12.
This is third consecutive selection for Hurtle and the second for Waslewski. The Eagles wrapped up another successful season in the KIAC, posting a 10-3 league mark and finishing second in the conference. Asbury was knocked out of the KIAC Tournament in the semi-finals by Indiana East.
Hurtle wrapped up her final year on the court for the Eagles with a 12-5 singles record, playing exclusively at the number two position. She was 9-3 in league matches. In doubles she recorded a 10-8 mark, playing at number the number one position and was 8-5 in KIAC matches. She finishes her career at 30-26 in singles matches and 27-32 in doubles matches. She will leave the program to pursue her degree in nursing.
Waslewski wrapped up another solid season, leading the team in singles wins for the second straight year. She finished 15-2 overall in singles, playing 16 of her 17 matches at number four and was a perfect 12-0 in conference matches. In her two seasons she has yet to lose a KIAC singles match at 24-0. In doubles she would split time at number two and number three, posting a 9-3 mark at number three and a 4-1 record at number two. She was 11-1 in KIAC doubles matches and in her career is 30-7-1 in doubles matches and 19-2-1 in KIAC doubles matches.
The complete list of the All-KIAC team is: Amy Alieva (Midway), Julia Blauvelt (IUS), Ashley Bunch (IUS), Courtney Ecker IUE), Kelsey Hurrigan (Brescia), Jessica Kutch (Midway), Emma LaDuke (IUS), Alejandra Matiz (Brescia), Emily McGrath (IUS) and Kelsey Wisman (IUS). Kutch was named Player of the Year and IUS coach Jenni Walters was named Coach of the Year. IUS won the regular-season and tournament titles.
