Eagles Take Two Over Weekend

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Asbury women’s tennis picked up two conference wins over the weekend, taking down Brescia University 7-2 on Friday before defeating St. Louis College of Pharmacy 9-0 on Saturday.  The Eagles are 9-5 overall and 8-3 in the KIAC, one win away from tying their most in conference matches set last year.

The Eagles had to fight to sweep doubles against Brescia, taking the top two 9-7 while cruising 8-0 at number three.  That started the weekend off well for three Eagles: Sarah Marshall, Miriam Waslewski and Morgan Amis.  All three players won both doubles and both singles matches over the weekend.

Waslewski and Marshall paired together for the first time this year in doubles and the two spot, winning 9-7 on Friday and 8-2 on Saturday.  Waslewski only dropped two games in singles, winning 6-2, 6-0 on Friday and 6-0, 6-0 on Saturday.  Marshall would need three sets on Friday (6-0, 3-6, 10-8) before coming back to win in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3 on Saturday out of the number three spot.  Amis would win 6-0, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-2.

Asbury’s 9-0 victory over St. Louis Pharmacy is the fourth time they’ve swept an opponent this season.  The Eagles will wrap up their regular season this week, hosting Midway on Wednesday at 4 p.m. in a match that will decide second in the KIAC.  They wrap up at Alice Lloyd on Thursday.  The KIAC Tournament will begin on Friday October 28th at Brescia.
