Tennis Bounces Back with Easy Victory
OAKLAND CITY, Ind. – The Eagles bounced back after their first two losses of the season with a 9-0 beating of Oakland City University. The win comes after two losses to Indiana Southeast this week.
Asbury had a relatively easy time putting away the Mighty Oaks, with the only real challenges coming in number one singles and doubles. The duo of Mallory Hurtle and Sarah Marshall improved to 7-4 on the season but it took an 8-6 match to do so. In singles Jordan Myers bounced back after two straight losses with a three set win over Lindsey Malin. Myers took the first set in a tie-break 7-6 (6), then dropped the second 6-1 before rallying for a 10-5 third set victory.
Myers teamed with Britannia Hormel to win at number two doubles 8-0, Miriam Waslewski and Chelsea Linhart won number three doubles by default. Waslewski remains perfect in singles at 11-0 after an easy 6-1. 6-0 victory at number five singles. Sarah Marshall (6-2, 6-1), Britannia Hormel (6-2. 6-1), and Mallory Hurtle (6-2, 6-1) would all win easily in straight sets. Morgan Amis would win number six by default.
Asbury’s road trip continues on Saturday with a KIAC match against Brescia University. The match is set to begin at 1:00 pm.
