Asbury to play for KIAC Title

BEREA, Ky. – Asbury will play for their first conference championship on Saturday after beating Indiana East 9-0 and Midway 6-3 in the KIAC Tournament.  Asbury has already won more matches (17) than any other season in school history.

The Eagles had no trouble taking care of business against IUE, only dropping nine games the entire match.  Asbury defeated the first year program three times this year by the same 9-0 score. 

Asbury would move on to the semi-finals against Midway, a team they split with during the season.  The Eagles would take a 2-1 lead after doubles, winning at number two and number three.  In singles, Asbury would win at number 2, 3, 5, and 6.  Sarah Marshall defeated Asiyat Alieva 6-3, 6-3 at the number three spot, Marshall had dropped three previous meetings this season to Alieva.  Miriam Waslewski would win her 20th match of the season playing at number five, the most in school history.

Asbury will take on Indiana Southeast in the KIAC Championship match at 10:00 am on Saturday at Berea College.  The winner will earn an automatic berth into the NAIA National Championship to be held in May.

After the matches Jordan Myers, Malory Hurtle and Miriam Waslewski were all named to the KIAC All-Conference Team.  Coach Jarred Miller was named Coach of the Year after posting a 15-3 regular season record and a 9-3 mark in the KIAC in his first year.
