Miller, Eagles Open With Win
Cincinnati, OHIO – Jarred Miller’s tenure as Asbury women’s tennis coach got off on the right foot as the Eagles defeated the College of Mount Saint Joseph 6-3 on Thursday evening. The Eagles season opening win is the first for the program since results are known beginning in the 2006 season.
Asbury (1-0) took number one and three doubles heading into singles play. Malory Hurtle and Sarah Marshall took down Mt. St. Joseph’s number one doubles team of Judy Frey and Kelsey Donavan 9-7 after being down in the match. Asbury’s number three doubles of Miriam Waslewski and Chelsea Linhart also won 8-4.
In singles competition, Hurtle, Britannia Hormel, Waslewski, and Morgan Amis were all winners. Hurtle, who is playing number two singles after playing her entire freshman year at number one, defeated Donavan 6-4 and 6-2. Hormel who is playing at four this year thanks to added depth defeated Dallas Harris 6-1 and 6-1. Waslewski and Amis didn’t drop a game as they won at number five and six 6-0 and 6-0.
Asbury will open their home schedule on Saturday September 11th against KIAC rival Brescia University. The match has been moved from its original time to a 1:30 pm start.
