Eagles Pick Up First KIAC Victory
Wilmore, KY – Asbury picked up their second straight win to start the season on Saturday as they defeated a short-handed Brescia squad 5-4. This was Asbury’s first win over Brescia since the 2008-2009 season.
Asbury (2-0, 1-0 KIAC) took advantage of Brescia’s lack of depth on Saturday. The Eagles needed only two wins on the court as Brescia did not have enough players to compete in #3 doubles and #5 and #6 singles. Britannia Hormel and Sarah Marshall came through with big singles victories after Brescia took #1 and #2 doubles.
Hormel, playing at #3 singles, won in straight sets 6-4 and 6-2. Marshall, playing at #4, had a much easier time winning 6-0, 6-0. Freshman Jordan Myers, who is playing at #1 singles, pushed Brescia’s #1 Sofia Pacifico but came up short 6-4, 6-2.
Asbury has three matches scheduled this coming week as they travel to Midway on September 15th, and host Indiana East and Geneva College on September 17th and 18th.
