Midway, KY – Asbury continued their hot stretch to open the season as they defeated Midway in a KIAC match 6-3.  The Eagles are only one win away from matching last season’s total.

Asbury (3-0, 2-0 KIAC) got off on the right foot as they swept all three doubles matches.  The team of Jordan Myers and Britannia Hormel pick up their first win in #2 doubles while #1 Malory Hurtle and Sarah Marshall as well as #3 Chelsea Linhart and Miriam Waslewski both improve to 2-1 on the season.

Going into singles the Eagles only needed to win two of the six matches, and nearly won five.  Asbury won #2, #4, and #5 singles and lost #3 and #6 in three sets after winning the first set both times.  Malory Hurtle improved to 2-1 at #2 with a 6-1, 7-6 (5) win.  Britannia Hormel remains perfect on the season at 3-0, 2-0 playing at #4 singles with a three set tiebreaker 7-5, 5-7, 10-5 win.

“I could be happier right now about the way these girls played,” Coach Jarred Miller said.  “This was the best that I’ve ever seen them play and they deserved to win this match.  Winning all three doubles right off the bat really helped us heading into singles and the girls really played hard.”

Miriam Waslewski also remains perfect on the year with 6-2, 6-0 win at #5.  Sarah Marshall playing at #3 won the first set 6-3 before dropping the last two 6-4 and 6-3.  A similar story at #6 where Morgan Amis won 6-1 in the first before losing 7-5 and 6-3 in the final two.

Asbury will host Indiana East on Friday September 17th at 12:00 pm.  The Eagles will also play on Saturday at home against Geneva College at 12:00 pm.
