Asbury Out-Races Cumberlands

Williamsburg, Ky. - Asbury's women's swim team defeated University of the Cumberlands on Saturday February 6^th for only the second time in school history.  The Eagles' women have now won in consecutive years over the Patriots in dual meets. 

Senior Abigail Sternemen (Zimmermann, Minn.) defeated the defending NAIA National Champion in the 200-yard Breaststroke, coming back over the last 100 to win in a time of 2:30.26 to Teresa Antesberger's 2:31.65.  Larissa Martin (Paris, Ky.) won three events: 200-yard Butterfly, 200-yard Individual Medley, and the 100-yard Butterfly.  The women also took first in the 200-yard Medley and Freestyle Relays, and Hannah Amstutz won the 1000-yard Freestyle while Allie Hubach out-touched everyone in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle.

The men won five races overall with Matt Hood (Beavercreek, Ohio) leading the way with three first place finishes.  Hood won the 50-yard and 200-yard Freestyle races and finished in a tie for first in the 100-yard Freestyle in a time of 48.88.  Trevor Ehrenheim narrowly missed setting the school record in the 200-yard Backstroke for the third time this season.  Ehrenheim won the race in a time of 1:57.67, he set the record at 1:57.27 back on January 21^st at Evansville.

The men and women will take the weekend off from competition before heading to Marshall University for the Appalachian Swim Conference Meet on February 19^th and 20^th.  Asbury has won the conference meet in each of the last two years.  NAIA Nationals will be held in St. Charles, Missouri March 3^rd through the 6^th.
