Seniors Honored in Win Over Transy
Wilmore, Ky. - The Asbury swim team celebrated Senior Day with a big win over Transylvania University on Friday night at the Asbury Natatorium. The girls won 117-83 and the guys won 120-75. Asbury won 18 of the 22 races on the night.
Asbury had only two seniors, Brendan Harriff (Churchville, N.Y.) and Abigail Sterneman (Zimmerman, Minn.). Harriff placed second in the 200-yard Backstroke with a time of 2:07.51 while also swimming the 50-yard Freestyle and the 200-yard Medley Relay. Sterneman was part of the winning 200-yard Medley Relay, placed third in the 50-yard Freestyle, and competed in the 200-yard Breaststroke.
The men and women each won nine of 11 races with the men's 200-yard Freestyle relay setting a pool record in 1:29.59. Matt Hood, Nathan Runtas, Blake Lawless and Tyler Decker set the mark as the race was set as an exhibition. Runtas also made the national cut in the 200-yard Freestyle with a mark of 1:50.03, Hood won the event in 1:45.99. Drew Wingert also made the national cut in the 200-yard Breaststroke as he finished in 2:21.12. The women saw Rachel Buchanan and April Hill make the national cut in the 200-yard Freestyle and 200-yard Breaststroke respectively. Buchanan finished in 2:05.28 and Hill in 2:39.54.
The team will take the weekend off from competition as they finish out the season next Saturday February 6th against the University of the Cumberlands.
