Purple Aces Out-Race Eagles
Evansville, Ind. - The Asbury swimmers travelled to Evansville to battle the Purple Aces one day after swimming against Berea at home. The Eagles, who took a limited number of swimmers, struggled to keep pace with the NCAA DI Purple Aces as the men lost 155-76 and the women 172-64.
Asbury doesn't have any divers on their roster and lost valuable points on both the men's and women's side that would have made the scores closer. The Asbury women posted a win in the 400 Medley Relay with a time of 4:06.61, a full two seconds ahead of Evansville's squad. Abigail Sterneman posted the lone win for the women, taking the 200 Breaststroke in a time of 2:27.71. Allie Hubach placed second in both the 50 Freestyle and the 100 Freestyle with Ellen Worsham placing third in the 100.
The men had four winners with Trevor Ehrenheim winning twice, taking the 200 Individual Medley and the 200 Backstroke. Ehrenheim set a school record in the 200 Back with a time of 1:57.27. Matt Hood took the 200 Freestyle and placed second in the 100 Freestyle with Nathan Runtas finishing right behind him. Malachi Oyer won the 1000 Freestyle with a time of 10:28.03 beating teammate Brady Lewis by nearly four seconds. Oyer also placed second in the 500 Freestyle.
Asbury will host Transylvania University on Friday January 29th for their final home meet of the year at 6:00 pm.
