Swimmers Take Conference Title
Huntington, WV---Asbury College swimmers made it a clean sweep of the Appalachian Conference Meet at Marshall University, with the women winning by an astounding 196.5 points over second place Notre Dame College and the men winning by a 45 point margin over Mars Hill College. Asbury won the combined results as well scoring 1,443.5 points with Mars Hill finishing second with 1,094 points.
The women had great tremendous success in all five relays, taking first in all five. Abigail Sterneman, Ellen Worsham, Hannah Amstutz, and Ali Hubach took the 200 freestyle
with Hubach, Amstutz, Kristen Katz, and Lindsay Keyes taking the 800 free. Hubach, Amstutz, Katz, and Worsham would win the 800 free. The team of Kelsey Perrine, Sterneman, Larissa Martin, and Hubach would take both the 400 and 200 Medley relays.
The women would find a lot of success in the individual races as well winning seven, placing second four times, and third five times. Perrine and Martin would place first and third in the 200 individual medley. Perrine would also place second in the 400 IM. Hubach would add to her five medley wins with two more individuals, the 50 and 100 freestyle. Worsham would finish third in both the 50 and 100 free, with Sterneman rounding out the 50 free sweep with a second place finish. Sterneman would also win both the 100 and 200 breaststroke.
Katie Kaminski would finish third in the 200 breast. Larissa Martin would add a 200 butterfly second place finish to her weekend success while Lindsay Keyes would place second in the 1650 free. Hannah Amstutz would win both the 500 free and the 100 fly and finish third in the 200 free.
The men would also enjoy a lot of success in the relays winning both the 200 and 800 free with a team of Blake Lawless, Will Sallee, Chris Lipka, and Matt Hood taking the 200 and Malachi Oyer, Lipka, Brady Lewis, and Hood taking the 800. Lipka, Sallee, Hood and Alex Losekamp would team up to finish second in the 400 medley with Bret Bechthold, Losekamp, Sallee, and Lawless placing third in the 200 medley. Lawless, Lipka, Sallee, and Hood would place second in the 400 free.
On the individual side Matt Hood would win the 500 and 200 free and place second in the 100 free. Chris Lipka would win the 200 IM and finish third in the 400 IM. Malachi Oyer won the 1650 free and placed third in the 500 free. Will Sallee would finish second in the 100 breast, 400 IM, and the 100 fly. Blake Lawless, Alex Losekamp, and Brady Lewis would all enjoy top three finishes with Lawless placing second in the 200 free, Losekamp finishing third in the 200 breast, and Lewis finishing behind Oyer in second place in the 1650 free.
