Swimmers Take Second at Centre
Danville, KY---The Asbury College swimming team competed in the Centre Invitational on Friday and Saturday January 16 and 17 with very strong results. The women placed second out of four teams and were only behind Centre by a score of 453-389. The men also place second out of four and were behind Centre by a 438-362 margin.
The women won 10 events led by Hannah Amstutz, Kelsey Perrine, and Abigail Sterneman each winning two events. Amstutz took first in the 500 freestyle (5:19.14) and the 100 butterfly (1:01.21). Perrine won the 400 individual medley with a pool record time of 4:50.55 and the 200 backstroke (2:17.28). Sterneman set two pool records in winning the 100 and 200 breast stroke with times of 1:10.02 and 2:30.72.
Ali Hubach also took first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:02.44. Larissa Martin won the 200 butterfly in 2:16.33, and Lindsay Keyes took first in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 18:50.18. The women's 800 freestyle relay took first and set a pool record of 8:12.16. The relay consisted of Amstutz, Hubach, Martin, and Kirsten Katz.
The men only won two events but competed in every race. Matt Hood took first in both the 200 and 500 freestyle events with times of 1:47.37 and 4:51.88.
The swimming team will take this weekend off before going to Transylvania University Friday January 30 for a 6pm meet. The Eagles will come home on Saturday January 31 to host Centre at 1pm in the Luce Center.
