Swimming Hosts Christian College Invite

Wilmore, KY---The Asbury College swimming and diving team hosted the first Christian College Invite this weekend. Gardner-Webb (NCAA I) and Wheaton College (NCAA III) joined the Eagles for a weekend of swimming and worship.
Team scores were not kept at this meet but Asbury still competed well with the NCAA swimmers. Asbury had 17 swimmers place in the top four of individual races and had seven 1st-place finishes.
Sophomore Matt Hood won four races, 50, 100, 200, and 500-yard freestyle. Hood was a national champion last year in the 200 freestyle. Junior Abigail Sternemen won the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke in times of 1:08.80 and 2:28.13. Sophomore Allie Hubach was the other top finisher, winning the 100-yard freestyle event with a time of 53.97. Hubach also placed 3rd in the 200 freestyle and 4th in the 50 freestyle.

Sophomore Chris Lipka placed 2nd in the 200 individual medley, 3rd in the 400 individual medley and 4th in the 200 backstroke. Senior Kelsey Perrine placed 3rd in the 200 breaststroke. Freshmen Blake Lawless was 3rd in the 50 freestyle, fellow freshmen Hannah Amstutz was 4th in the 200 butterfly. Two other freshmen Malachi Oyer and Brady Lewis placed 3rd and 4th respectfully in the 200 breaststroke.
The weekend was more than just swimming as all three teams met together in the gym after the meet for a time of praise and worship. Members of the Asbury swim team led the group for worship during the evening. The teams slept in the gym overnight.
