Matt Hood captures 200 freesytle national championship

San Antonio, Texas - After posting the best qualifying time in preliminary heats at the NAIA Swimming & Diving Championships in the 200 freestyle earlier in the day, freshman Matt Hood secured Asbury's second, individual national championship by winning the event in a time of 1:40.91. The margin of victory was only .01 of a second over second-place finisher, David Hibberd of Simon Fraser (B.C.) University.

Hood is the third-ever Asburian to capture a national championship, joining Caitlyn Taylor who brought home the 1-meter diving title earlier in the 2008 competition and Kerry Hancock's title in the 200 butterfly in 2007.
