Women's Soccer Drops Opener to IWU
MARION, Ind. - The Asbury women's soccer team took the field for the first time in 2013 with a new head coach and plenty of new faces on the roster, but this version of the Eagles will still be searching for their first win after dropping a tough 6-2 decision to Indiana Wesleyan on Friday.
Asbury (0-1) was led in scoring by two of their new additions, Maddye Hahn and Riley Smith, who both tallied a goal in the loss. Katie Ponnabaker lead all players in scoring with two goals for the Wildcats.
The Wildcats--who are receiving votes as a top-25 team in the NAIA-- struck first in the game in the 14th minute off the foot of Caitlyn Mains. They would tally twice more before Hahn buried a ball past goalkeeper Kelsey Powell in the 66th minute. Cassie Holland picked up the assist for the Eagles.
Smith's tally came in the 76th minute of play and cut into the Wildcat lead, but the hosts would find the net twice more before the final whistle to push the score to 6-2.
The Eagles will stay in Indiana another day for a matchup against Taylor University. Gametime is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Saturday (8/24).
