Eagles Suffer 2-0 Loss to Lady Bulldogs
WILMORE, Ky. – Asbury women’s soccer lost their third straight match on Wednesday afternoon, 2-0 at the hands of Tennessee Wesleyan. Both goals were scored in the second half for the Lady Bulldogs.
Kaitlyn Poulakis netted the first goal in the 68th minute off a free kick from just outside the 18-yard box after an Asbury foul. That is her fifth goal of the season. Before that point Asbury was playing pretty even as neither team found much success in their attack third.
Madelyn Thomas scored her second goal of the season in the 78th minute to cap the scoring and end any hope of a comeback for the Eagles. Asbury (1-6) took seven shots in the match as the Bulldogs (6-5) took 13. Jessica Batey made her second start in goal for the Eagles and made four saves.
Poulakis just missed a goal in the 63rd minute, hitting the bottom of the crossbar and the ball bounced back into the field of play. She would score the game winner five minutes later.
Asbury will head to Union University in Tennessee on Saturday for a 6 pm match.
