Women's Soccer Nabbed Pre-Season Favorite in KIAC
BEREA, Ky. - The KIAC coaches have selected Asbury University as the preseason favorite in women’s soccer for the 2012 season, conference officials announced Wednesday, August 15th. The Eagles are the six-time defending KIAC Champions and have won five of the last six conference tournament championships.
Asbury received 35 points including five of the seven first place votes. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own team. Asbury won the regular season and tournament championships last season and finished with a 13-10-2 overall mark and a perfect 4-0 record in the KIAC. Coach Paul Nesselroade’s squad defeated Cincinnati Christian 3-2 in the KIAC Championship game and have a 23-1 record against KIAC schools since 2006.
Cincinnati Christian was selected in the second position with 29 points, including one first place vote. Point Park joins the KIAC this season and was selected third with 25 points and one first place vote. Completing the poll are Carlow (20 points), Midway (19 points), Berea (11 points), and Brescia (8 points).
The Eagles will kick-off their season on Saturday September 1 at Spring Arbor (Mich.).
