Eagles Survive and Advance Through Penalty Kicks
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Asbury will play for their fourth NCCAA Mid-East Region Championship on Saturday after advancing past Campbellsville on penalty kicks 5-4. The score was tied 1-1 at the end of regulation and two overtime sessions.
Rebecca Batey would score the equalizer in the 81st minute after Campbellsville’s Cassie Yanelli scored in the 20th minute. The Tigers would out-shoot the Eagles 13 to five in the match and took all three corner kicks as Asbury packed it in and absorbed pressure all night.
In the shootout Campbellsville would go first and Megan Campbell would miss. From there the other nine shooters would connect as freshman Kait Rogers would make the fifth shot for the Eagles, sending them to the championship match. Two other freshmen would make their kicks in Samantha Chanda and Kaitlyn Hooper. Jessica and Rebecca Batey would also make their kicks.
