Eagles Claim 6th Straight KIAC Title

Rebecca BateyWILMORE, Ky. – For the sixth consecutive year the Asbury women’s soccer team can claim the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular-season title after a 2-0 victory over Midway on Tuesday afternoon.  The Eagles finish a perfect 4-0 in KIAC matches this year and are 23-1 in conference games during that span.

Emily Lawson knocked home the first goal of the game just two minutes in as Jessica Batey fed a cross from deep on the right side to the front of the goal.  Lawson slid it to knock the ball home.  Batey would add another assist in the game, hooking up with her sister Rebecca, in the 66th minute on a free kick.  Rebecca would head in past the keeper for her team-leading 11th goal on the season.  Those were the first two assists on the season for Jessica.

Asbury (9-7, 4-0 KIAC) has dominated the KIAC for the past six seasons, winning 32 of 34 games against conference foes in regular and post-season matches.  They have also won their last 10 home conference games dating back to the 2005 season.  The Eagles have also won all eight home games this season and nine straight in Wilmore.

Junior Lyndsay Figgins recorded her second straight shutout on the season against Midway; both shutouts have come in KIAC matches with starter Maegan Rogers out with an injury.  Figgins made two saves on Tuesday and has allowed only one goal in over 300 minutes in goal this season.

The Eagles will wrap up their season with two more home games, first hosting University of the Cumberlands on Saturday for Senior Day and Homecoming.  That game is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.  They will finish the season next Tuesday by hosting Georgetown College at 7 p.m.  The KIAC Tournament will be held November 4-5 at Midway, Asbury will be the top seed.
