Asbury Blanks Pikeville
WILMORE, Ky. – Asbury’s Rebecca Batey scored twice as the Eagles stayed unbeaten at home on the season with a 2-0 victory over Pikeville. The Eagles are 5-0 at home this year.
Batey scored her sixth and seventh goals of the season as Asbury (5-5) controlled the game from the outset. The Eagles took 18 shots in the match to Pikeville’s (3-4-2) five. Batey’s first goal came in the 20th minute as Kaitlyn Hooper crossed a ball from the right corner in the front of the net. Batey made a diagonal run to the near post and flicked the ball past keeper Chelsea Schulte.
Batey would go on to score again just after the halftime break as Jessie Smith found her on another cross into the box. Batey’s two goals giver her 40 for her career, becoming only the second Eagle to do so.
Asbury has now won seven straight at home dating back to last year with five home games remaining this year. The Eagles have been night and day on the road and at home this year, scoring 18 of their 19 goals at home and surrendering only two at home. This is the third shutout for the team this year and second straight after a 5-0 win over Berea on Thursday.
Asbury will play again at home on Monday as they host Mountain State in a KIAC match at 4:00 pm. The Eagles have won 11 straight conference matches.
