Eagles Drop Opener to #8 Indiana Wesleyan

MARION, Ind. – Asbury’s women’s soccer program continued their history of slow starts to the season, losing to eighth-ranked Indiana Wesleyan 8-0 on Friday afternoon.  The Eagles are now 3-7-1 all-time in season-openers.

Kelsey Johnston from IWU (1-0) created trouble all day long, scoring the first four Wildcats’ goals, the first coming in the eighth minute.  Brooke Stevens would add two of her own off the bench and Tracey Tiernon added three assists and one goal.

The Eagles (0-1) fought back in the second half and kept pace for the first 30 minutes before subbing off the starters.  Asbury will play again on Saturday just down the road at Taylor University at 4 p.m.

On the night Asbury would only muster three shots, and only one on goal.  Junior Rebecca Batey (Maysville, Ky.) had two of those three shots and freshman Samantha Chanda (Wilmore, Ky.) had the lone shot on goal.  Senior Maegan Rogers, who didn’t play in the Eagles’ scrimmage on Monday due to injury, played all 90 minutes in goal and made three saves.
