Asbury survives late Tiger surge
WILMORE, Ky. – Andrea Hasik’s second half goal proved to be the game-winner as the Eagles defeated Campbellsville 2-1 on Saturday afternoon. All three goals were scored in the second half.
Hasik’s first career goal came in the 72nd minute after an initial shot was saved by a defender, Hasik picked up the rebound and buried it into the net giving Asbury at the time a 2-0 lead. Campbellsville would answer in the blink of an eye. A minute and three seconds later the Tiger’s Megan Campbell flicked a ball off her foot past Asbury keeper Bethany Russell.
The Eagles (6-12) scored their first goal in the 59th minute as Rebecca Batey scored off a pass from Kelli Dierdorf. It was Batey’s 15th goal of the season, moving her to within one of her total from last season.
Campbellsville (10-7) made a late surge for the equalizer, controlling the ball for the better part of the last 20 minutes. The Eagles defense kept bending but wouldn’t break as the Tigers only got off one shot in that time.
Asbury heads into next weekend’s KIAC Tournament on a four game winning streak. The Eagles will open up next Friday against the winner of Brescia and Midway. This year’s tournament is hosted by Berea College.
