Late Goal Costs Eagles
Dayton, TN – Asbury scored an equalizer goal late in the second half but immediately gave back the goal and fell to the Lions from Bryan College 2-1 on Saturday night. The loss drops the Eagles to 0-5 to begin the season while Bryan improves to 5-1.
Asbury’s lone goal came off the left foot of Rebecca Batey in the 72nd minute. Aly Crawford passed the ball to Batey in the middle of the field, Batey got some space and fired a left footed strike into the upper corner of the goal. That briefly tied the game at 1-1, but Bryan would score two minutes later with the game winner.
The Eagles had their chances on this night but couldn’t convert. Asbury fired off nine shots, five by Rebecca Batey. Bryan’s keeper Stephaine Gagnon made seven saves in the match. Asbury’s keeper Maegan Rogers made four saves for the Eagles.
Asbury will head to Georgetown College on Wednesday September 15th to take on the Tigers at 5:00 pm.
