Eagles Lose in Overtime
WILMORE, Ky. – Cedarville scored 40 seconds into overtime to give them a 2-1 win over Asbury on Saturday afternoon. The goal came after the Yellow Jacket’s Amanda Bunton took the ball into the six-yard box and crossed it into the middle where it was deflected by an Asbury defender into the net.
Asbury (1-8) evened the game late in the first half as Rebecca Batey received a pass from Brittany U’Wren as Batey ran on side past the defense. Batey, who’s sixth goal of the season leads the team, was one-on-one with the keeper and beat her into the upper right corner of the goal. Cedarville took an early 1-0 lead as Amanda Bunton who beat Asbury keeper Maegan Rogers one-on-one.
Both teams took control at different times as momentum continued to swing back and forth. Asbury had a chance to win it in regulation as they earned a free kick from 35 yards with only seconds left, but no one was able to get a good head on the service from Kara Selle and Ceaderville’s keeper Alysia Bennett secured the ball as time ran out.
Asbury will take the field against KIAC foe Brescia on Wednesday at 7:00 pm at home.
