Nesselroade, Wiley Honored by KIAC
The KIAC and its coaches announced the women's soccer All-Conference players during the KIAC Tournament this past weekend. Seven different Eagles were announced to the first or second team and Head Coach Paul Nesselroade was named Conference Coach of the Year.
Senior Miranda Wiley was named KIAC Offensive Player of the Year after scoring 20 goals and assisting on nine others. Freshman Melanie Dickson (Kula, Hawaii), freshman Rebecca Batey (Maysville, Ky.), along with seniors Ashley Amburgy (Jamestown, Ohio) and Kellie German (Versailles, Ky.) were also named to the First Team All-Conference.
Batey was second on the team with 15 goals and also tallied seven assists. Dickson started every game in goal for the Eagles and had a goals against average of 1.22 for the season and only allowed one goal in helping lead the Eagles to a 5-0 conference mark. She also recorded two of her six shutouts in the conference tournament.
German and Amburgy close out a stellar career in which they have led the Eagles to their most victories in school history with 14 this year as well as their freshman year in 2006. Their four year total of 52 wins is the most for one class in school history. They have also been part of four straight KIAC regular and post-season titles and the school's first win in NCCAA National Tournament play last year.
Coach Nesselroade has now been named KIAC Coach of the Year three of the last four years. The lone exception came last year. The Eagles have only lost one conference game in the last four years, with a remarkable 14-1 record. Nesselroade took over the program in it's third year in 2003 and has led them to five straight winning seasons and an overall mark of 78-67-6.
Asbury also had two players named to the KIAC All-Conference Second team, Jess Young (North Vernon, Indiana) and Bethany Russell (Florence, Ky.) Young led the team with 12 assists and also score three goals. Russell scored a career high seven goals.
Asbury awaits their NAIA Opening Round pairing to be announced the evening of Sunday November 15. The Eagles will be making their first ever appearance in the NAIA National Tournament.
