Eagles Fall In NAIA Opening Round

Pulaski, Tenn. - Asbury grabbed an early lead against Martin Methodist but couldn't hold it as the RedHawks pulled away with a 4-1 win in the Women's Soccer NAIA Opening Round.

Rebecca Batey (Maysville, Ky.)scored in the 4th minute and gave the Eagles an early lead over the #7 seed in the tournament. Martin Methodist would then answer with three goals in an eleven minute span starting in the 15th minute. Overall the Eagles couldn't get anything going offensively, with only four shots compared to the RedHawks' 20. Melanie Dickson (Kula, Hawaii) came up with 10 saves despite allowing four goals.

Asbury (14-7) was making their first appearance in the NAIA National Tournament and Martin Methodist has been national champs twice.
