Five Eagles Score as Asbury Pound Patriots
Wilmore, Ky. - Five Eagles scored as Asbury had their most impressive win of the season, a 7-1 victory over University of Cumberlands on Saturday afternoon. The women's soccer team improves to 6-6 on the season, the first time they've been at .500 since September 11th.
Amanda Bechtel scored first in the 7th minute as the Eagles started out of the gate quickly. Jess Young and Miranda Wiley provided the assists. Asbury would head to the half up 2-0 after Rebecca Batey added her 9th goal of the season. The Eagles only out-shot Cumberlands 19-16 on the afternoon, but freshman keeper Melanie Dickson was able to come up with seven saves.
Asbury pulled away in the second half scoring three goals in a 15 minute span Wiley, Batey, and Young each picking up a goal. Wiley re-took the team lead in goals with her 11th later in the match, Batey is second with 10. Jen Mendelson would add a goal later in the match to bring the Eagle's total to a season high seven. Cumberlands would score their lone goal in the final minute.
Asbury will host KIAC rival Midway at 7:00 pm on Tuesday October 13th.
