Eagles Pick Up big Conference Win
Wilmore, Ky. - Asbury's women's soccer team picked up an important conference win on a cold night in Wilmore on Tuesday, defeating Midway College 2-0. Asbury now takes over sole possession of first place in the KIAC at 2-0 and 7-6 overall, the only reaming unbeaten team in the conference. Midway drops to 2-1 inside the KIAC and 5-6 overall.
Kara Selle (Mentor, Ohio) knocked in a rebound off a free kick in the 21st minute that gave the Eagles the lead. Miranda Wiley took the kick which was bobbled by the keeper, Selle was there on the back post to pick up her fourth goal on the season. Asbury would control the ball most of the game, taking 35 shots to Midway's three. The Eagles could not find the frame despite all their shots, only putting nine on target.
Midway would threaten on counter attacks but Asbury's back line rarely let anything past them. Kellie German (Versailles, Ky.) controlled the defense from her center back position and was always waiting to keep the ball as far away from Melanie Dickson in goal. Bethany Russell added the second goal with 23 seconds left after Wiley sent a ball through the middle to Jess Young making a run on the left flank. Young carried and found Russell on the back post.
Asbury will play a make-up game against Berea College on Thursday October 15th at 7:00 pm at home. The game was originally played on September 22nd but was called at halftime due to lightning. The game will be played in its entirety.
