Eagles Clinch KIAC In 4-0 Win
Owensboro, Ky. - Asbury scored four first half goals against Brescia en route to their sixth straight victory and finish KIAC play undefeated for the third time in four years. The Eagles' 4-0 victory clinches their fourth straight KIAC Regular Season Championship and will give them the number one seed in the KIAC Tournament held at Asbury on November 6 and 7.
Asbury (10-6, 5-0 KIAC) scored all four goals by four different players, two seniors and two freshman. Senior Miranda Wiley scored the first goal off a penalty kick followed by Ashley Amburgy's goal to take an early 2-0 lead. Freshmen Kara Sells and Rebecca Batey would cap off the scoring with goals of their own. Freshman keeper Melanie Dickson currently 331 consecutive scoreless minutes over the last four games including three shutouts. The last goal she surrendered was to University of Cumberlands on October 10th in the final minute. Bethany Russell played the last 30 minutes in goal against Brescia.
The Eagles finish conference play only allowing one goal, to Mountain State on October 3rd. Asbury would shut out the next four conference opponents and outscore them 25-1. The senior class will look to win their fourth straight KIAC Tournament Championship along with the four regular season championships when they host the tournament. During this four year stretch Asbury has only lost one game to a conference team, 2008 to Midway 1-0.
Asbury will travel to Georgetown College on Tuesday October 27th at 4:00 pm before finishing out the season at home for Senior Night against Covenant College Saturday October 31st at 12:30 pm during Homecoming Weekend.
