Batey Sets Two Records, Eagles Cruise 9-0
Wilmore, Ky. - Rebecca Batey (Maysville, Ky.) set two school records in Asbury's 9-0 victory over Berea College on a cold and wet Thursday night. Batey, only a freshman, set the school record for assists with four and points with eight, she also scored two goals,
Asbury (8-6, 3-0 KIAC) had some trouble in the first five minutes as Berea got off two of their three shots on the night, but the Eagles responded in a big way. Bethany Russell (Florence, Ky.) scored the first goal of the game in the 6th minute off Batey's first assist. Two minutes later Kara Selle (Mentor, Ohio) would add another goal off a pass from Amanda Bechtel (Wakarusa, Ind.). The Eagles would add three more goals before the end of the half as Jess Young, Batey, and Miranda Wiley each adding a goal.
Overall six Eagles scored a goal with Kellie German (Versailles, Ky.) adding her first of the season. Emily Lawson (Louisville, Ky.) would pick up an assist on German's goal. 18 Eagles would appear in the game and 11 different players would get off at least one of Asbury's season high 44 shots. Asbury's nine goals are the most since scoring 11 last October against Brescia.
Asbury will have the weekend off before traveling to Cincinnati, Ohio and Owensboro, Kentucky next week for two KIAC matches. The Eagles will battle Cincinnati Christian on Tuesday October 20th at 7:00 pm and on Thursday will take on Brescia at 7:00 pm.
