Batey Named KIAC Player of the Week After Record Performance
Wilmore, Ky. - Asbury freshman Rebecca Batey was named KIAC Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the week of October 12-18. Batey set two records in a 9-0 win over KIAC rival Berea on Thursday October 15th.
Batey (Maysville, Ky.) a 5-7 forward/mid-fielder who set Asbury's mark for assists in a game with four and points with eight. Batey assisted on two of Asbury's first three goals against Berea before scoring her first goal on the match in the 30th minute. She would add another assist just before halftime. She would score again in the 64th minute before breaking the records with her final assist in the 69th minute.
Batey is second on the team this season in goals scored with 12 behind only Miranda Wiley who has 13, and she is also second on the team with seven assists trailing only Jess Young's nine. Batey's current output puts her fifth in team history for points in a season, goals in a season, and assists in a season.
The previous record for points in a game was seven which was happened three times, the most recent being Miranda Wiley this year against Trevecca Nazarene. Before Batey the most assists in a game was three which Katie Crocker set against Berea last year.
