Wiley's Hat Trick Leads Asbury Over Trevecca
Nashville, Tenn. - Four first half goals and a hat-trick from Miranda Wiley (Collingwood, Ontario) were enough for Asbury as they picked up a 6-3 road victory over Trevecca Nazarene on Friday night. Asbury scored the first four goals in the match, including the first only 24 seconds into the game by senior Ashley Amburgy (Jamestown, Ohio).
Asbury (4-5) added their second goal in the 29th minute as freshmen Kara Selle (Mentor, Ohio) netted her second career goal. Then Asbury's all-time goal scorer took over, Wiley added two of her three goals of the evening before the half. Trevecca would add goals in the 42nd and 44th minutes, to bring the halftime score to 4-2.
Trevecca would add their final goal two minutes into the second half before Asbury would pull away for good. Bethany Russell would score in the 56th minute as Wiley added an assist. Wiley would then cap off her night with her third and final goal in the 88th minute. Wiley moves into a tie with Rebecca Batey for the team lead in goals with seven.
The Eagles put up 33 shots on the night including 19 on goal. Trevecca would fire off 20 shots and Asbury keeper Melanie Dickson would save nine of 13 shots on frame.
This is the second time this season Asbury score six goals, the first came against Bluefield College in a 6-1 win on September 5th. Asbury beat Trevecca last year at home 5-0 behind two goals from Miranda Wiley on homecoming weekend.
The Eagles will stay in Tennessee over night and travel down the road to Jackson to take on Union University Saturday at 3:00 pm est.
