Eagles Cruise to Victory 6-1
Wilmore, Ky. - One night after their first win Asbury's women's soccer team was at it again and in a big way. The Eagles fresh off a 5-0 shutout of Bryan College, took down Bluefield College 6-1 on Saturday.
Unlike Friday night the Eagles didn't wait around until the second half to start scoring, but rather jumping on the Rams early. Freshmen defender Aly Crawford scored her first collegiate goal in the 5th minute when she took a shot from inside the box and slipped past the keeper. Fellow freshmen Rebecca Batey added the first of her two goals on the night in the 18th minute after she took an errant pass at midfield all the way in and beat the keeper. She would add her second in the 55th minute on almost the same play.
Senior Ashley Amburgy and junior Bethany Russell added their first goal of the season in the game as well. Amburgy's came in the 30th minute and would give the Eagles a comfortable 3-0 halftime lead. Russell's came in the 78th minute off a pass from Jess Young that had the Eagles up 6-0. Senior Miranda Wiley added to her illustrious career with her fourth goal of the weekend and season in the 57th minute. She now is tied for the team lead with Batey. Bluefield's lone goal came in the 83rd minute off the foot of Katie Warren.
Asbury will travel to Indiana this weekend for back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday. The Eagles will take on Taylor University on Friday at 4:00pm before travelling to Indiana Wesleyan University to battle the Wildcats on Saturday at 7:00pm.
