Soccer Team Takes Trip to Mexico
Eighteen members of the Asbury College Women's Soccer team spent their spring break on a mission trip to Mexico. They kept a daily blog of their activities. It can be found at asburysoccer.blogspot.com. Here is the final entry:
Our trip to Cancun was an overall success and blessing. We learned what it meant to be a selfless servant through our daily schedule. We woke up each morning and ate
Once we ate lunch, we packed up and headed out to the ministry field. We spent time in local villages where we accredited a local pastor of a village. While there, we went "door to door" inviting people to come to a fiesta. We passed out balloons for the little kids and worked on our Spanish. During our program, we had clowns and puppets. We also performed a powerful skit to Lifehouse's "Everything".
After the skit, we passed out the popcorn and candy bags for them to enjoy during the evangelical movie. While the movie was showing, we prayed for the people there as a group and individually. After the movie, Benancio (a local evangelist) gave an invitation, and we passed out bibles. At a few locations, we fed the locals dinner, which consisted of hot dogs with mayonnaise and jalapenos (YUCK). Back at the compound, we ate a late dinner (with tortillas), and then ended the night by debriefing and recapping meaningful events of the day. Coach worked on his fitness by trying to do eight-minute abs, which was a laughing exercise for us girls.
Upon returning to the States, many of us were not ready to be back to our regular hectic schedules. Each of us took something away from this trip, and many of our attitudes and outlooks have changed. We are grateful to have had this opportunity and look forward to what God has in store for us. Thank you for your prayers and support towards our trip!
Ashley (for everyone)
