Women's Soccer Signs Twins

Wilmore, KY---Asbury College is pleased to announce the signings of two soccer players from Mason County, Jessica and Rebecca Batey from Mason County, Kentucky. The girls are identical twins with Rebecca specializing in defense and Jessica an offensive force. The signing took place on Tuesday October 7th at Mason County High School.

Jessica has scored over 100 goals in her career and is the all-time leading scorer in school history. She set the school record for goals in a season, scoring 39 her freshmen

season when she led the state in scoring at 2.2 goals per game, she was third in scoring in 2007. Although Rebecca is a defensive player she has totaled 57 goals and 39 assists in her four years at Mason County.

Asbury's Head Coach Paul Nesselroade thinks that signing these two girls will only enhance the Asbury program. "I am absolutely thrilled to make these signings. Players of this caliber will go a long way in helping the program to take the next step."

The twins have received numerous district, region, and state awards at Mason County. Rebecca was named All-23rd District team in 2007, the All-District tournament team in 2006 and 2005. She has been on the All-12th Region team in each of her first three seasons, '05, '06, '07, and the All-Tournament team in '05 and '06. Rebecca was an honorable mention to the All-State team in 2006. She also took home the Mason County defensive player of the year in '06 and '07 as well as the offensive player of the year award in '06.

Jessica was named to the All-District Tournament team in 2005 and 2007, the Region Tournament team in 2005, and the All-Region team in 2005 and 2007. She missed the 2006 season with a broken leg.

The Batey twins have been part of the Mason County football team as well as the soccer team for the past two years. Jessica handles PAT's and Field Goals (64 PAT's and 1 Field Goal) and is second all-time in school history on the kicker's scoring list. Rebecca takes care of the kick-offs and specializes in on-side kicks.

The Twins picked Asbury over Central Michigan University and University of Iowa.

Jessica and Rebecca plan to study Biology at Asbury with intentions to go into medicine.
