Soccer Loses First KIAC Match in Three Years
Midway, KY---The Asbury College women's soccer team suffered a tough defeat on Saturday, losing to conference opponent Midway 1-0. The Eagles were vying for their third straight undefeated conference season. Asbury had already locked up first place in the KIAC tournament when they beat Mountain State last weekend 2-1.
Asbury (8-8-1, 3-1) gave up the only goal of the match in the 8th minute and simply couldn't recover. Asbury out shot Midway 24-4 in the match and only had one keeper save compared to eight for Midway. Asbury had nine corner kicks to only one for Midway, but simply couldn't find the back of the net.
This was the Eagles' first conference loss since 2005 when they lost to Bethel, no longer a member of the KIAC, 5-0 in the conference tournament. Asbury has one more match remaining, against Shawnee State Monday night at 7. That will be senior night. The Conference tournament will be hosted by Mountain State starting November 7th.
