Wiley Paces Eagles in 5-3 Win
Wilmore, KY--- Miranda Wiley scored three goals and the Eagles had their highest season output of five goals in a 5-3 win over Union College, Wednesday September 17. Wiley, the reigning KIAC Player of the Week, now has five goals on the season and continues to hold the career record with 37.
Asbury (3-4) fell behind early when Ashley Hall got by the defense in the 2nd minute and put one in the back of the net. That goal would set the tone for the rest of the match, a very fast, offensive match that turned gritty and physical towards the end. The Eagles would answer Hall's goal when Carol Fogler scored on a penalty kick in the 13th minute.
Wiley, a junior from Ontario, Canada, would notch her first goal in the 29th minute as sophomore midfielder Katie Crocker fed Wiley in the box. In this back and forth game the Bulldogs would answer quickly. Ashley Hall again got by the defense in the 30th minute and squeezed it by Asbury keeper Maegan Rogers in the left corner.
Just one minute later Wiley would score her second goal off another penalty kick. That goal would put the Eagles ahead for good. Junior Ashely Amburgy would score a third Asbury goal off a penalty kick when sophomore Bethany Russell was pulled down in the box in the 49th minute.
Heather Jaques would add Union's final goal in the 61st minute off a beautiful pass from Renata Pelxoto. Both teams would challenge the other before Wiley got loose on a breakaway in the 86th minute and would provide the final margin of 5-3. Crocker added her second assist on the day and 5th on the season.
Asbury will look to get back to .500 when they travel to Upland, Indiana to take on Taylor University Saturday September 20 at 4pm. They will return home Monday September 22 to take on Lincoln Memorial at 7pm.
