Soccer Scores First Win
Berea, KY--- The Asbury College women's soccer team scored their first win of the season on the road Tuesday September 9th against conference foe Berea College 4-0. The Eagles out shot the Mountaineers 34-3 in the match, with sophomore goalkeeper Maegan Rogers only needing one save.
Asbury (1-4, 1-0) scored four goals in the contest which is a season high. All four goals were scored by a different player, but sophomore midfielder Katie Crocker assisted the first three goals. Junior forward Miranda Wiley got the scoring started in the 22nd minute when she blasted one into the back of the net from 18 yards out off a pass from Crocker.
The Eagles went to halftime with a 1-0 lead but in the second half they quickly added to their total. Senior midfielder Laura Fellows followed a shot by Crocker in the 46th minute and scored her first goal of the season. Freshmen midfielder Jessica Young scored her second goal of the season off a header in the 53rd minute off a cross again by Crocker.
Junior midfielder Ashley Amburgy added her second goal of the season in the 74th minute when she put one in the top right corner of the net.
Asbury will hit the road this weekend with a JV game Friday night against Johnson Bible College and a varsity contest Saturday night at 7 pm verses Bryan College. Both Games are in Tennessee. Asbury's next home match will be against Union College (KY) Wednesday September 17 at 7 pm.
