Golf Finishes Fifth, Combs 10th

CombsBARDSTOWN, Ky. – Asbury took home 5th place in the KIAC/MSC Unaffiliated Grouping Tournament at Maywood Golf Course.  The 36-hole tournament completed play on Tuesday afternoon with Cumberlands (Ky.) running away with the title after a two-day total of 644, 43 strokes better than second-place Lindsey Wilson.

Asbury’s Madison Combs placed 10th in the 42 player field.  Combs shot an 88 on the second day after an 85 on day one to finish with a 36-hole 173.  Cumberlands’ Liz Stephens came back from a five-stroke deficit after Monday with a one-over 73 on Tuesday to claim the individual medalist honors.  Cumberlands had six players in the top 11 of the field.

The Eagles finished 38 strokes behind KIAC foe Brescia despite improving from a 392 to a 376 on Tuesday.  Jessica Pence saw the second biggest improvement in the tournament from the first 18 to the final 18, shooting a 90 on Tuesday after a 102 on Monday.  Pence finished in a tie for 24th.  Campbellsville’s Caitlyn Wilkerson improved by 18 strokes from the first day.
