Women Finish 6th in Final Tourney of Fall

Madison CombsBARDSTOWN, Ky. – Asbury’s women’s golf team took home sixth place in the nine team field at the St. Catharine Invitational on Tuesday at the Bardstown Country Club.  The Eagles’ two-day total of 756 was just one stroke behind conference rival Brescia’s 755.

Madison Combs placed in the top-20 at 18th with a score of 179 after shooting an 87 and a 92.  Every player for the Eagles struggled on the second day, shooting higher scores on Tuesday than on Monday as they added over 30 strokes to their total. 

University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) took the team and individual top spot as the team shot a 631 , five strokes better than Lindsey Wilson.  Laura Beth Harris shot a 68 and a 78 to finish at 146, eight shots in front of second place. 

Mary Beth Cunningham shot a 189 for the tournament including an 88 on day one for the Eagles.  Emily Puckett shot 93 and 98 to finish with a 191 and Bethany Sonnier finished with a 197.

Asbury and the other two KIAC schools will be paired with the Mid-South schools (Cumberlands, Campbellsville, Lindsey Wilson, Georgetown, and St. Catharine) in the spring for the direct qualifier to the NAIA National Tournament.
