Asbury Takes First Golf Win
BEREA, Ky. – Asbury women won their first golf event in the two year history of the team, defeating Bryan College on Saturday at the Berea College Invitational by one stroke. The Eagles also competed in the Brescia University Invite on Friday, finishing second behind the host Bearcats.
On Saturday Mary Beth Cunningham led the team with an 85, a personal best. Madison Combs added an 88 and Emily Puckett shot a 90. Both Jessica Blue and Sarah Hagan shot a 99. The Eagles total of 363 was just one stroke better than Bryan’s 364.
Friday the Eagles finished with a 389 as Bethany Sonnier led the team with a 91. Combs shot a 93 and Puckett added a 101. Cunningham was the final scoring round with a 104. Brescia was the only other women’s team at the tournament and shot a 351.
Asbury will take part in the Georgetown College Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at Cherry Blossom Golf Course in Georgetown.
