Eagles Close Season with Second Place Finish
NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. – The first season of women’s golf finished on Tuesday with a second place finish in the Asbury Invitational. The Eagles capture second place in the KIAC with their finish.
Madison Combs finished third in the two-day tournament at Golf Club of the Bluegrass with a score of 189, eight strokes behind Lauren Verble from Brescia in second place and 11 strokes behind the champion Bretnea Turner from Brescia. The girls who normally play from the white tees played from the blue tees to meet the minimum distance requirement which pushed all the scores up.
Since the KIAC doesn’t not field six teams that would allow for an automatic qualifier to the NAIA National Championship in women’s golf the coaches voted to hold the Tournament Championship at this meet instead of holding a separate meet. Brescia took the team title with a 761, Asbury took second with a 823 and Indiana East finished third despite having only three golfers.
