Eagles Take 2nd in Season Opener
WILMORE, Ky. – Asbury’s women took second in the Chick-fil-A Invitational hosted on campus on Thursday afternoon. The Eagles placed three runners in the top-12, more than any of the seven teams besides eventual winner Georgetown College.
Asbury was led by freshman Justine Vonderheide’s time of 22:42, placing seventh out of 53 runners. Sophomore Dria Stallings placed 10th in 23:31 and Beth Crist took 12th at 24:00. The Eagles put three more runners inside the top-25 as sophomores Chelsea Parsons and Courtney Ashcraft took 20th and 22nd while freshman Devon Gruver finished 25th.
Georgetown claimed five of the top six spots including the first and second places. Elisah Overpeck finished nearly two minutes in front of everyone else with a time of 19:54. The Tigers finished with 18 points. Asbury was second with 71, only one point better than Lincoln Memorial University.
Asbury will next be in action on Friday September 9th in Highland Heights, Ky. on the campus of Northern Kentucky University.
