Fast Start Helps Eagles Down Carlow, 85-52
PITTSBURGH, Pa. - A long bus ride and the bitter cold temperatures outside weren't enough to cool off the red-hot Eagles en route to their tenth straight win--and sixth in conference play--Friday night. Ellie Steiner and Molly Harlin had 12 points each as a fast start and the Eagles' patented balanced attack led to yet another KIAC win for the Eagles over Carlow 85-52.
The win improved the Eagles to 16-3 on the season and improved their conference record to 6-1 with a matchup against Point Park (Pa.) looming tomorrow afternoon.
Carlow (8-9, 2-6) were led with a game high 25 points from Lynsi Mueller.
The Eagles build a 10-point lead just 4:28 into the game and used a plethora of bench players to build on and sustain the big lead over the remainder of the contest. Freshman Brittany Warren's 3-pointer with 15:32 remaining in the first half pushed the lead to 10. Warren would finish with seven points in 13 minutes of play.
The score from the freshman guard was just one of many for the Eagles' freshman on the night. Warren was joined by classmates Kali Whiteside (11 points), Harlin (12), Heather Jolley (5) and AJ Lewis (2) to combine for 32 points on the night for the first year players.
The Eagles took a 37-18 lead into the break. Out of the break the Eagles kept the pedal to the metal pushing their lead to 30 points on a deep ball from Steiner with 16:29 left to play. Catie Fletcher and Cassidy Flynn's lone two points, respectively, of the night pushed the Asbury lead to 34 and 36--the team's most of the game-- late in the game. A last second three from the hosts finalized the scoring as the Eagles captured the 85-52 win.
The Eagles have just 14 hours to rest before a showdown with Point Park tomorrow (Jan. 25) at 1 p.m. The Eagles and Pioneers sit atop the KIAC standings and will play for sole possession of the KIAC regular season leaderboard.
