Women's Basketball Has Three Seniors Named NAIA Scholar Athlete
SIOUX CITY, Iowa - The NAIA has announced that 178 Division II Women's Basketball student-athletes have been named 2013 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes. Asbury placed three on the list, seniors Laura Carroll, Dorian Downs and Lakin Griffith.
The Eagles were responsible for exactly half of the honorees from the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference as Carlow had two representatives and Brescia had one.
Carroll and Griffith finished their careers as members of the 1,000 point club and Carroll leaves as the school’s all-time leading scorer. Carroll was also selected as a CoSIDA Academic All-American 1st Team selection.
Davenport (Mich.), Morningside (Iowa), Olivet Nazarene (Ill.), Rochester (Mich.), Saint Mary (Kan.) and Tennessee Wesleyan tied for the lead amongst all institutions with five honorees.
In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status to qualify for this honor.
