Carroll, Barbee Take KIAC Honors

BEREA, Ky. – Asbury seniors Laura Carroll and Trenia Barbee were named All-KIAC by league coaches.  The seniors have led the Eagles to a program-record 22 wins this season and a 22-9 overall record and a 10-5 record in KIAC play.  The 10 conference wins are also the most in program history.

Barbee has set the school mark for points in a season with 705 and counting and has scored over 1,200 points in her two-year career.  Her 24.3 points per game average ranks 2nd in NAIA II and also 2nd in the KIAC. Ariel Nickell of Alice Lloyd leads both the conference and nation.  Barbee will leave as the school leader in points in a single season, points per game in a single season and points per game in a career.  She ranks fifth in career points.  This is her second straight selection to the All-KIAC team.

Carroll became the school’s all-time leading scorer this year and has since surpassed 1,600 career points.  The senior from Paintsville is averaging a career-best 16.2 points per game this season.  She leads the team with 91 assists and will leave second in career assists.  Carroll is making her fourth straight appearance on the All-KIAC team. 

The Eagles will play in the KIAC Tournament semifinals on Monday against Alice Lloyd at 4 pm.  The semifinals and finals are hosted by Indiana Southeast. 

Alice Lloyd’s Ariel Nickell was named KIAC Player of the Year for the second straight year.  Point Park’s Tony Grenek was named the Coach of the Year after leading PPU to the KIAC regular season title in their first year.  Alice Lloyd’s Carla Booth was named Newcomer of the Year.
