Barbee Claims 3rd KIAC Weekly Award
BEREA, Ky. – Asbury University senior Trenia Barbee was named the KIAC women’s basketball player of the week by KIAC officials on Monday, January 21st. This is her third player of the week award of the season.
Barbee averaged 28.5 points, 7 rebounds and 3.5 assists as the Eagles finished the week with a 1-1 record. She scored 29 points in a 101-77 blowout road win over Indiana Southeast on Saturday, a game in which she scored 15 points in the first nine minutes. Barbee added six rebounds and five assists in the game. She made 12-of-23 field goals in the game including a 5-of-8 mark from three point range.
She connected on 47.6 percent (7-of-15) from behind the 3-point line on the week and shot 47 percent overall (20-of-42). Barbee is 3rd in NAIA II scoring per game and second in total points. She is only seven points away from 1,000 in her career after just 51 career games.
Barbee started the week with 28 points, eight rebounds and two steals in a 71-68 loss to Berea College. The senior guard connected on 5-of-8 of her 3-point attempts in the game but did most of her damage from the foul line, knocking down 10-of-14.
Asbury is currently 14-7 overall and 4-3 in conference play. They will return to action on January 22 when they host Kentucky Christian University in a non-league game.
