Women Defeat Point Park as Carroll, Barbee Shine

Trenia BarbeeWILMORE, Ky. – One day after becoming the school’s all-time leading scorer Laura Carroll poured in a season-high 28 to lead all scorers as Asbury defeated Point Park 83-75.  Point Park beat the Eagles in Pittsburgh in December.

The Eagles (13-6, 2-2 KIAC) led for nearly the entire game, only trailing once in the first half and three times in the second half.  Asbury had its largest lead of the game at 11 in the first half.  The Pioneers (12-3, 6-2 KIAC) had their largest lead at four also during the first half.

Carroll did most of her damage at the foul line, connecting on 14-of-15 from the charity stripe.  She was 7-of-12 from the floor as well.  The Eagles made 22-of-30 from the foul line on the day, all attempts coming from either Carroll or Trenia Barbee. 

Barbee finished with 22 points after only scoring six in the first half.  The Eagles shot 46 percent from the floor in the game including hitting on half of their 30 second-half-attempts.  PPU made only 35 percent in the game.  Ja’Nia McPhatter led the Pioneers with 22 points.  April Austin scored 21 including making five three-pointers.

The Pioneers grabbed 42 rebounds to Asbury’s 40.  Katresa Savisky recorded a double-double for PPU with 11 points and 13 rebounds.  Barbee led the Eagles with eight rebounds.  Dorian Downs and Lakin Griffith each pulled down six boards for the Eagles.  Downs finished with nine points, all from threes and Griffith added 12 points.

The Eagles will have a week off before returning to the court to host Berea on Tuesday, January 15 at 6pm.
