Eagles Roll Over Lady Oaks
WILMORE, Ky. – Asbury just missed their third-straight 100-point game in a 98-66 win over Oakland City University on Friday night. The Eagles have won three straight and are in the top-five of the NAIA II in scoring per game.
Lakin Griffith became the ninth member in the 1,000 point club, scoring 16 points in 21 minutes. Griffith hit two three-pointers in the second half to bring her total to 16 and finish right at 1,000 career points. Trenia Barbee led the team with 26 points on 9-of-16 shooting. Griffith and Barbee each pulled down four rebounds.
Laura Carroll scored 16 points to pull within 77 of the school’s all-time record holder, April Henderson at 1,410 career points. Carroll currently has 1,333. On Friday the senior guard made 7-of-12 from the floor and also had a team-high three assists.
The Eagles (9-3) shot 50 percent from the floor despite making just 6-of-23 from beyond the three-point arc. Asbury made 18-of-20 free throws. Oakland City (3-6) shot 41 percent from the floor but committed 22 turnovers while the Eagles gave it up only seven times. Asbury led 62-35 at the break.
